Research Institutes
St. Thomas University hosts four research institutes which coordinate research in specific areas:
The Thomas Aquinas Research Institute
The Thomas Aquinas Research Institute also organizes Symposiums and conferences and publishes a journal. The journal is a channel of communication of the results of research either by members of the Institute, or by those with research interests either in the study of Thomas Aquinas or in medieval theology and philosophy.
The Thomas Aquinas Research Institute owns a small library containing many interesting books by and about St. Thomas.
The St. Thomas University Research Institute for Christian Culture
The St. Thomas University Research Institute for Christian Culture was formally established in 1985 (although its roots go back to 1963) to conduct integrated research on Christian culture and to popularize Christian thought among faculty, students, and the general public.
The institute sponsors weekly public lectures as well as a Summer School of Theology. The major activities of the Institute include study meetings whose themes are based on joint and/or individual research, symposiums and seminars, and various types of concerts. Special research groups meet regularly on such themes as Christian thought and contemporary Christian theology. In addition, it publishes a Bulletin which includes an annual report on its research activities.
The current research theme is "The Basics of Catholic Theology" which involves interdisciplinary research from a global point of view.
The Bulletin of the Research Institute for Christian Culture gathers the results of research and studies, which are conducted individually or jointly and are summarized in papers in the fields of theology, philosophy, and all other topics related to the bimillennial history and culture of Christianity around the World. It is published every March. Currently it is run jointly with the Thomas Aquinas Research Institute.
The St. Thomas University International Language and Culture Institute
The St. Thomas University International Language and Culture Institute provides a focus on campus for scholarship on Language Learning and Teaching, Linguistics, Literature and Culture. We publish an annual journal with submissions welcome from all members of the teaching staff. We also hold occasional speaker meetings to give scholars at St. Thomas University a chance to hear distinguished speakers in their field from outside the university.
The St. Thomas University Institute of Humanities
The St. Thomas University Institute of Humanities, established in 1997 for the study of Liberal Arts, currently consists of eight faculty members, from various fields in the Humanities, and publishes an annual journal, St. Thomas University Bulletin of Humanities. In addition it hosts interdisciplinary forums on a variety of topics, from philosophy to neuroscience, several times during the academic year, where students and faculty members, and at times scholars invited from outside the university, can enthusiastically discuss the topics of the day. The forum is open to the general public.
